Buying services - excessive costs

If you have agreed a price for the work in advance then you have entered a contract to receive a service at a set price. If you withhold money you can be taken to court.

If you have only received an estimate (rather than a fixed quotation), then the supplier can charge more than this if it is a reasonable amount. If you feel this is not reasonable then you can pay what you think is a reasonable amount. Before you do this get further advice from an advice centre such as Citizens Advice Bureau.
